PREVIOUS RELEASES
Released in early 2018, Draw By Four’s first album Framework is a monumental debut. Named after the celebrated 24-date UK tour the previous year, it displays Jon Shenoy’s breadth of compositional technique and his eagerness to maintain a catchy, lyrical approach to the contemporary jazz aesthetic, giving plenty of room to showcase the quartet’s formidable individual talents. At its centrepiece lies a suite of music composed by Shenoy in response to paintings by three British artists. Available to purchase from Jellymould Jazz and all streaming platforms.
BIOGRAPHY
With a line-up steeped in tradition, Draw By Four take the classic 60s organ quartet into brand new territory where the compositions from leader Jon Shenoy (Ivo Neame Large Ensemble) mix contrapuntal bass lines and rhythmic hooks with thoughtful lyricism. Mixing stark ethereal voices with gritty Hammond boogaloo, organist Will Bartlett (Jim Mullen, Salena Jones) draws on a wide palette of sounds that build the foundation for an infectious mix of groove-based original compositions, enchanting ballads and unique arrangements of avant-pop songs.
Released in 2018 on Jellymould Jazz records, Framework is the 10-track debut album from Draw By Four, recorded hot on the heels of their UK tour of the same name. As well as showcasing formidable performances from the quartet members it also includes a suite of compositions written in response to paintings by three British painters: Winifred Knights, JMW Turner & Gill Holloway.
